Who need Visa to Vietnam?

Citizens with ordinary passports of certain countries can visit Vietnam without an entry visa.

+ Most citizens of ASEAN member-countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, and Thaland, do not need a Vietnam visa if they stay in Vietnam up to 30 days. Citizens of the Philippines do not need a visa for 21 days. Brunei passport holders are not required to get a visa to Vietnam for 14 days. They could apply for ordinary passport type with return tickets.

+ Passport holders from the Republic of Korea, Japan, Russia, Germany, France, United Kingdom (UK), Italy, Spain, Belarus and the Scandinavian nations (Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland) do not need a visa to Vietnam if they intend to stay in the country up to 45 days but they must have return ticket if they enter Vietnam via visa exemption.

Citizens from the two groups above need Vietnam visa if they want to stay for a period longer than prescribed.

Citizens of other countries are required to get a Vietnam entry visa.

Passport requirement:

Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry.

How to obtain Vietnam visa:

Vietnam visa can be obtained electronically, at the Vietnam Embassy/Consulate in your country, or at an international airport in Vietnam (for holder of a Visa Approval Letter issued by Vietnam Immigration Department)

1. Electronic visa: Passport holders from a number of countries can apply for an electronic visa using the web portal of Vietnam Immigration Department (https://www.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/). Please check the website for detailed information on procedures and fees. Note that it may take up to 7 days for an application to be processed.

2. Applying for visa at the Vietnam Embassy/Consulate in your country. Please contact the Embassy/Consulate directly (by phone or through website). An application normally requires a passport that is valid for at least six months from the intended arrival date, and must have at least one blank visa page; 2 passport sized photographs (4x6 cm); a completed visa application form and the application fee. 

3. Visa issued upon arrival: for this method, it is advised that the visa applicant engages with travel agencies that can process all the paperwork needed to obtain a Visa Approval Letter from the Vietnam Immigration Department. The applicant can then receive the stamped visa at the airport of entry.
